Everything is going pear shaped!

Hey BBZ, today we have the second installment of Shape Up! Today we're focusing on the super curvaceous pear shape.
There are a few famous pears, I'm not sure if you've heard of them... Do you know RIHANNA? or EVA LONGORIA? or even AMERICA FERRERA? Many pear shape ladies would despair over their hips but just look to these women as inspiration and know that it is possible to look absolutely gorgeous!

To spot a pear:  The pear also known by the terms Spoon or Bell is known for it's noticeable hip ratio. The hip of a pear are normally larger than shoulder size. Fat tends to distribute itself around the bum and increased fat mass tends to stay on the size and on the upper abdomen. pears have larger hips, stronger thighs and a smaller bust broader shoulders. On paper the pear shape seems very undesirable but believe me and the lovely lady to the left, it can be very appealing when you get the know-how on fashion. This know-how is something you'll hopefully pick up later in this post. 20% of women are said to be pear shaped.

Ladies with pear shaped hips should invest in some knit trousers. Pears find it hard to get properly fitting jeans because they tend to be loose round the waist when they are comfy in the hips. To avoid this try knit trousers in your proper waistsize; they'll stretch loveingly around your hips and hug your curves. When it comes to skirts stay away from very short skirts. They draw attention to the thighs, instead try an A-line skirt. it draws any attention away from your thighs. If you can't get your hands on an A-line any skirt that will cover your thighs will do but avoid pleats, the pleat lines draw you out and make your hips look wider. Choose a plain skirt that goes does to at least your knees.
When it comes to colours it's best for pears to put dark colours on the bottom, eg some nice dark jeans, with a bright or light coloured top. Brigher and lighter colours draw the attention to your upper half and slim you down whilst drawing attention away from your lower half. Feel free to explore more complex patterns in your tops. Avoid excessive detail to what ever bottoms you have on. Also, try tops with fuller sleeves. Flowing sleeves help to balance you out on top. Try to find the unique style, it's a top that is cinched in just under your bust but only in the middle. Full on empire lines don't work for the curvy pears but this does.

Picking up a blazer with buttons that begin just under your chest or even on your chest draw out the line from your boobs to your waist and balances out your top half. When it comes to any jacket avoid jackets with buttons that begin lower down. The lower the more unbalances you'll look. Heels are also a great way to elongate your body but don't forget you may need to buy longer trousers so that your current trousers arn't too short for the heels. It's approachign summer and if you're planning on getting into that swimsuit try out a hight cut leg. It'll lengthen your legs and minimise your hips. If this is too exotic for your liking wear a colourful full length sarong but an elongating pattern is pretty much needed for this.

Well that's all we have for the pear shaped ladies. The essential item for these curvy women is high rise jeans with a bootleg cut. Tune in next time little fashion monsters for our tutorial where we will learn to spot and dress a woman with a petite frame.

An Apple a day...

Hey BBZ, today we our first installment of Shape Up! Today we are focusing on the rounded apple shape.
A few of the most famous apple shaped women are Catherine Zeta Jones, Drew Barrymore and Liz Hurley.

First of all we need to know how to spot an apple shape. As I've mentioned bodies don't always follow the rules but here are the general statistics for those lovely apple shaped women out there. Apple ladies tend to have broader shoulders, Their shoulders are normally wider than their hips. Lucky for apples they tend to have slim legs. Fat is normally distributed in the abdomen and chest. Not that Catherine Zeta Jones would know anything about that. The larger apples out there tend to have larger breasts than average. If you're an apple your best features are most likely your legs and breasts. The biggest mistake people make when dressing themselves is that they focus on hiding the parts they don't like rather than trying to accentuate their best bits. If you're an apple focus on your skinny legs and your melons. Don't be afraid to show em off. It's normally said that around 14% of women are apples.

Next we have to learn how to dress all of you apples out there. Simply, because apples tend to carry most of their weight around their waist avoid tight or clingy clothes; instead opt for looser cottons of flowing silks. If you are a fan of prints, choose simpler designs. The more intricate the design the more attention is drawn to your waist when we want them to be staring at your sexy legs. Apples tend to give off a stocky look so we can lengthen the body by choosing monochromatic colours instead of a brash mix of colours. A nice touch to add if you are a colour lover is to wear a pair of bright statement shoes with a monochromatic dress.

A great way to draw attention away from your waist and onto your legs is to wear shorter skirts. Obviously if  you don't feel comfortable about this then you can simply buy trousers with flat fronts. Avoid pleats and look for back zippers, mainly anything the draws attention towards your waist. Wearing tops with long shirttail hems, they hid the tummy with their rounded hemming. When choosing a formal dress try and look for a dress that wraps around your figure and folds on the stomach, they linear folds cut up the tummy and stretch you out. Basically the rules with apples is to draw attention down to your legs or up to your bust. You can draw attention up by choosing tops with a V neckline. Catherine is very fond of her plunging necklines.

If you're a Jeans lover choose low rise jeans than lower your waistline. Avoid belts as they cut you right below your waist, this accentuates your tummy. A problem Apple ladies tend to have to deal with is that they find jeans that fit their waist but not their slender hips and thighs. To aid this you should choose jeans that fit your hips, even if they have a bit of extra room in the tummy you can wear a tunic top to cover this.

That's all for the apple shape. My must have piece for an apple is an A-line skirt. It converts your apple shape to a slender hourglass shape. Thanks for reading my little fashion monsters. Tune in next to to learn all about those sexy pear shape women.

Bye BBZ!

Shape up!

Hey BBZ!
Today, is the day this blog really commences. With regular posts and everything! EXCITING! We have already learned about fashion itself so now it's time to talk clothes. Firstly, we need to learn about a very important topic. Body shape! Before an artist can start to paint they need to find the right canvas. When we wear clothes and get dressed we become one with our clothing. To explain this I will use an example. If you were to wear a long evening gown. You look stunningly elegant and beautiful. You're going to feel more elegant, which will cause you to act more elegantly. The clothes we wear affect our moods on both a conscious level and a subconscious level. So getting it right is more important and anyone could know and we must first learn about the canvas for our clothes. Our bodies.

They come in all shapes and sizes from the towering elegants to the adorable elves the human race is a bustling melting pot of non-conformity. However there are enough trends and patterns in human figures that allow us to group certain body types together. Depending on how you refer to, many people believe there are about 4 female body shapes. Trinny and Susanna would beg to differ and agrue a reputable 12 body shapes. I however believe old Aunty Gok has got it right at around 8. I have taken it upon myself to work through these 8 female body types in order listed below and teach you how to spot each one and how to dress each one.

The 8 Female Body Types
The Apple
The Pear
The Petite
The Tall
The Athletic
The Inverted Triangle
The Slender
The Hourglass

The 5 Male Body Shapes
The Triangle
The Oval
The Rectangle
The Rhomboid
The Inverted Triangle
(I know...They sound so not as cool but hey, what can you do?)

There are also a respectable 5 body shapes for men which I will also be going over. I am a person who believe that men should have just as much choice when it comes to fashion as women. Sadly the world disagrees. So, my little fashion monsters, stay tuned for the first installment of the Body Shop where we will learn how to spot and dress an apple!

Fashion and Friends

In the immortal words of Coco Chanel
"Fashion is not simply a matter of clothes; fashion is in the air, born upon the wind; one intuits it… it comes from ideas, manners, events…”
In simple, fashion doesn't just mean putting on some nice clothes. Fashion is the materialistic embodiment of self expression. Every event in out lives affects us in a way that can be expressed though our clothes. If we were brought us in a conservative manner we will dress conservatively. If we were brought up by parents that valued and promoted self expression we will dress however we like. Which leads us to the question, if we can dress however we like then what influences what we will wear? The answer to that question is one word, one which is only two syllables long and has shaped the earth itself. Fashion.

A dictionary definition of fashion would be "a prevailing custom or style of dress, etiquette, socializing, etc." We can easily see that this definition was written by someone who has never experienced wearing a little bit of Prada. Fashion is much bigger than any non-fashionista can imagine. Clothes are used only for 2 things, protection and warmth. "Fashion has two purposes: comfort and love. Beauty comes when fashion succeed." Yet again some more inspiring words from Coco Chanel. However, the self proclaimed queen of self expression may beg to differ. Lady Gaga exhibited a new idea in fashion the instant she slipped on this little number.

When I say slipped, I mean more of slimed into it. By wearing a vegetarian's nightmare we have finally hit the bare bones of fashion. This momentous occasion in fashion when the world realised that fashion is more than just clothes, it's pure self expression.
In my personal opinion, if someone were to say to me "You're unfashionable" I'd take it as a compliment. To be fashionable means to conform to the current clothes that are "cool", which is quite frankly the complete opposite to self expression. With the creation of this blog I hope to educate and inspire you to experiment with your clothes. With a little bit of luck and a little bit of love we can really make this blog take off! It's a 2 way progress process. I need to write things worth reading and all you need to do is check back often and to the fashion obsessed to you out there I would love to here your feedback and any requests you may have.
